Traditionally a ‘greenhouse’ is any glass housing facility for the purpose of growing plants that require protection from cold or extreme weather. Here at Colorado Breeders Depot, we use a greenhouse (actually several buildings) to grow thousands of pounds of hemp each year.
By using the greenhouse, our sturdier hemp flower genetics can flourish with amble space to stretch and grow tall. Lighting costs diminish greatly thanks to the 300+ days of sunshine that Colorado is blessed with annually. We are able to pass on these savings to our customers in the form of very competitive prices.
Our plants in the greenhouse require less attention and exactness, but we still baby them and check daily for any sort of deficiencies in nutrients.
In the world of hemp as a whole, the answer is no. All of our greenhouse-grown flower is smokable and safe for human consumption, but this does not ring universally true. Some companies grow industrial crop outdoors depending on their location, but some use greenhouses.
Colorado Breeders Depot prides itself in organic practice growth methods which means all-natural pesticides and nothing synthetic touches the soil or plant. Again, this cannot be said for every company, which means the presence of pests is possible, which means bug poop on the flower you’ll be smoking. We think that’s pretty gross.
Similarly, some grow operations don’t mind using synthetics or chemicals to help keep their plants “healthy” and growing despite improper practices or nutrient levels. We recommend ensuring you are consuming safe and clean flower if you are shopping elsewhere, as we ensure all products we produce for consumption is grown with you in mind first and foremost.
Unfortunately, no. We carry several indoor strains that would do terribly if grown using natural-light methods and schedules. Humidity and CO2 control is much harder to accomplish with bulk grows and larger spaces. These indoor genetics are so fussy that we refer to them as ‘diva’ strains— one wrong move and they refuse to perform.
The strains we grow in our greenhouse are hardy and bred to be sturdy and thrive using sunlight. This hardiness also allows them to yield more flower and thrive growing close to other plants.
This is a great question. The short answer is: no. The long answer is that every strain is different and every yield of said strain is different. Potency is never guaranteed or 100% predictable.
The greenhouse method employs the sun.
Millions of lumens hit the plants and continuously feed them nutrients, constantly photosynthesizing and therefore growing much bigger flower buds than some indoor strains. These greenhouse strains thriving in the sun can be more potent than indoor strains.
We post all of our COAs in each strain’s product page for you to compare and contrast a complete cannabinoid profile of all of our premium hemp flower.
Absolutely not. We are known for the attention we pay to all of our strains. We definitely have more plants per hand in the greenhouse, but only because there is so many more plants. These strains receive equal attention overall. All of our greenhouse flower is hand-manicured and tested daily for health and nutrient content.
The sun provides unlimited lumens. This alone saves tens of thousands of dollars each month in our own resource cost, and these savings are passed on to the customer. The greenhouse buds are easier as we have years of experience and familiarity with them.
If we save money, you save money. The price differencial between indoor and greenhouse translates purely to cost of production and not a comparison of quality.
