What are the differences between THCO and Delta 9 THC?

When it comes to the subject of THC, there is plenty of confusion.  The different deltas combined with the rise of THCO have made this subject matter quite complex.  Let’s take a quick look at how THCO differs from Delta 9 THC.

Delta 9 THC Vs. THCO: The Basics

Delta 9 THC naturally occurs in cannabis and hemp plants.  THCO acetate does not naturally occur in either.  THCO is not considered to be a THC isomer.  Rather, THCO is a hemp product derivative made within a laboratory through a process referred to as acetylating.  Delta 9 THC and Delta 8 THC hemp extracts are processed, setting the stage for the THCO compounds to work their magic upon consumption.

In contrast, Delta 9 is contained within hemp and cannabis products that have THC.  Delta 9 is even in strains that have a high level of CBD or additional cannabinoids.  If you see a package with THC on the label, the product is nearly guaranteed to have Delta 9 THC unless the packaging states to the contrary.

Delta 9 products range from flowers to cartridges, tinctures and edibles.  The rapid expansion of the market is even setting the stage for Delta 9 products to be used in beverages, skincare products and other topical ointments.

Delta 9 THC is found within a plethora of high-quality cannabis strains.  As an example, Delta 9 is contained within Girl Scout Cookies, Wedding Cake, AK-47, OG Kush and the ever-popular Sour Diesel.  Though most of those who enjoy Delta 9 choose to smoke or vaporize it, it can also be consumed in additional forms as noted above.

The Legality of Each

Contrary to popular belief, THCO is completely legal when obtained through the hemp extraction process.  However, the compound has not been analyzed to the same depth as other compounds, so it is often misunderstood.  THCO produces an enjoyable psychoactive effect after consumption.

Delta 9 THC is also legal.  The nuances of the laws pertaining to Delta 9 THC differ by state.  Though federal law does not permit the use of THC stemming from a cannabis plant, many states have legalized Delta 9 THC products for recreational and medical use.

What About Potency?

The potency of THCO is between three and four times that of Delta 9 products so it makes sense for those seeking as enjoyable of an experience as possible to choose THCO.  THCO products produce a lovely high that makes the consumer feel content and euphoric.  Potency tests and consumer experiences also reveal Delta 9 THC also produces enjoyable highs.  However, it must be noted Delta 9 is also used for purposes beyond enjoyment.  Those who have health problems ranging from insufficient appetite to nausea and addictions find Delta 9 helps them overcome those problems.  It is also worth noting Delta 9 is widely revered as more potent than Delta 8.

THCO is a THC analog.  This means THCO’s chemical structure is similar to that of THC yet not exactly the same.  THCO provides a feeling of ecstasy yet it does not contain the same flavonoids and terpenes contained within natural oils.  Those who are insistent on consuming whole plants will understandably take slight umbrage to the makeup of THCO.  However, objective parties willing to try new experiences and give THCO products a chance unanimously agree it makes them feel fantastic.  In terms of the psychedelic and spiritual experience provided by THC and Delta 9, there is no debate.  Those who have tried both agree THCO creates an unforgettable state of euphoria that some consider to be spiritual.

Choosing Between THCO and Delta 9 Products

You cannot go wrong with products containing THCO or Delta 9.  Do not dwell on the fact that Delta 9 is held in high regard by those who work in the cannabis industry.  Though Delta 9 certainly has its unique advantages, THCO products also have their own redeeming qualities as detailed above.

If you seek an enjoyable buzz, opt for THCO products as they are that much more potent than Delta 9 products.  If you are looking for a form of pain relief or something to help you overcome nausea or addiction, consider the merits of Delta 9.  However, both THCO and Delta 9 products have redeeming qualities that will have their own unique appeal to each individual person.

Give each of these products a try at different dosage levels and frequencies, compare your feelings after the experiences and move forward accordingly.
